Today the United States is the foremost economic,
military and cultural power whose influence extends throughout
the world. Despite its dominance, the United States still needs
to engage with other nations in order to address global problems
such as the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, international
terrorism, disease and environmental degradation.
The transatlantic partnership between the United States and Europe
represents a critical part of this engagement process. However,
since the end of the cold war differing concepts on how to deal
with an increasing number of key political, economic and strategic
issues has placed an increasing strain on this important relationship.
In view of this deterioration in relations, a small team of
dedicated individuals from the business, academic and media
fields who work extensively in the United States and Europe
have come together to establish American European Institute.
The American European Institute will seek to provide an independent
forum for discussion research and analysis, promote closer links
between political, academic and economic institutions and focus
on the importance of the strategic alliance and trading relationship
between the United States and Europe. The organisation will be
funded by a combination of corporate sponsorship, donations, publications
and events. |
