10th October: Reception And Briefing with Senators Dole And Daschle at Claridges
The American European Institute and Alston & Bird, joined with the European Lawyer and the British American Project to host a reception and briefing with former majority leaders Senator Bob Dole and Senator Tom Daschle. 11th October: International Visitation to the U.S. Continued to Rise through July

The U.S. Department of Commerce today announced that 4.6 million international visitors travelled to the United States in July 2005, representing an increase of almost 10 percent over July 2004. Arrivals were also up 8 percent for the first seven months of 2005 compared to 2004.

14th October: European Commission President Barroso meets US President Bush at the White House

Commission President José Manuel Barroso will meet US President George W. Bush on 18 October at the White House, the first such bilateral meeting in the White House for many years. They will discuss the WTO Doha Round, the deepening of transatlantic economic integration and the promotion of democracy in the world.

26th October: Promotion of EU agricultural products outside the EU

The European Commission has approved measures to provide information on, and to promote, agricultural products in third countries. Member States have submitted 25 promotion and information programmes to the Commission to be examined. The 15 programmes that have been accepted are targeted at the USA, Canada, Japan, Russia, Ukraine, China, and Switzerland.

27th October: Trade Growth in 2005 to slow from record 2004 pace
Lower economic output, brought on in part by the sharp rise in oil prices, will slow world trade growth in 2005, according to World Trade Organisation economists. World merchandise exports are expected to grow by 6.5 per cent in 2005, markedly less than the 9 per cent growth recorded in 2004.
